Child Abuse Prevention Program: Nurturing Parenting

The Nurturing Parenting Program focuses on offering Primary Prevention Services targeting families and individuals who are at a higher risk of developing problems that can lead to child abuse or neglect.

The target population for these services includes families facing poverty, single-parent households, families affected by substance abuse, families with a history of abuse and neglect, and families supported by relative caregivers (i.e. grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). Through the consistent delivery of parent education opportunities, the program assists the parent in understanding five parenting constructs needed to develop a healthy parent/child relationship. These five constructs are:

  • Appropriate Expectations
  • Building Empathy
  • Effective Discipline
  • Appropriate Family Roles
  • Independence and Power in Children and Adults

Parents who participate in the class will gain knowledge and confidence in parenting skills. The Nurturing Parenting® curriculum can be offered in group settings and/or home visitations.

Classes meet once weekly for 4-8 weeks for up to three hours.
